About The Film
Cherrybomb is a twist on the buddy story. Two best friends compete for the same girl that leads to tragic consequences. Cherrybomb follows Malachy (Rupert Grint) and Luke (Robert Sheehan) as they compete for the same girl (Kimberley Nixon). She engages the boys to play in some increasingly dangerous games to win her affection. What starts out as simple from being thrown out of a club and graffitiing walls soon turns into a tragic consequence which leads to a character’s death. The movie is set in Belfast but carefully does not dabble into the cities troubled past finally featuring a new, hip place where the troubles are now far behind most young people of today.
Directed by Lisa Barros D’Sa & Glenn Leyburn, Cherrybomb gives you a filmmaking approach that is fresh, stylish and a new approach to film. The film itself is written by Daragh Carville. And it features a hip soundtrack featuring some of Belfast’s up-and-coming bands and produced by David Holmes well known for his work on the Ocean 11, Ocean 12, and Ocean 13 soundtracks and IFTA soundtrack award winner for Hunger! (Cherrybomb was also nominated.)
